Total nonfarm payroll employment in the U.S. increased by 177,000 jobs in April. While the pace of hiring has cooled compared to earlier in the year, the unemployment rate held firm at 4.2%. The labor force participation increased just slightly to 62.6% for the month of April. Additionally, average hourly earnings rose by 0.2%. This month’s report suggests a labor market that remains resilient, even as it adjusts to broader economic shifts.
