Total nonfarm payroll employment in the U.S. increased by 216,000 in December, an increase of 17,000 over November’s gain. The unemployment rate remains unchanged at 3.7%, and this rate has been under 4% for 23 consecutive months.
Employment in professional and business services changed little, and employment in professional, scientific and technical services continued to trend up by 25,000.
