Job Description:
Our client, a Real Estate organization in the Chicago Loop is in need of a Controller.  The need is immediate for a consulting basis. The Controller will be responsible for the company's financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.  The Controller will report to the CFO.  The Controller responsibilities and requirements are listed below: 
 
CONTROLLER Responsibilities:
Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
Monitor financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors
Maximize return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances; making investments
Prepare budgets by collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans
Achieve budget by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
Provide status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
Comply with federal, state, and local requirements by studying existing and new legislation 
File financial reports and advise management on needed actions.
 
CONTROLLER Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Experience in real estate, construction or property management required
7 years’ experience in a mid – large sized organization preferred
ERP experience JDE, Yardi or Timberline preferred
Technical accounting skills and ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and tax codes 
Experience with financial reporting tools (BI, dashboards), and expert Excel skills required  
Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with all levels of management
Ability to function as a team player and leader with an exceptional attitude
The ability to lead, manage and hold people accountable
